The news of presidential approval for the payment of the long awaited pensions to the dismissed Biafra police officers who fought in the 30-month Nigeria-Biafra civil war and the immediate commencement of payment to over 400 of the officers who gathered at the Ingrace Event Centre, Rangers Avenue, Independence Layout, Enugu, State last week is very cheering and commendable.
This gesture no doubt is unprecedented and will go a long way in healing old wounds and will ameliorate the excruciating suffering of the affected veterans and their families.
I commend President Muhammadu Buhari for this kind gesture which is a demonstration to the fact that he indeed “belong to nobody but belong to everybody” and like Oliver Twist, l appeal to him to continue to extend his developmental agenda and key appointment to the people of South East in the spirit of equity and justice as this will no doubt douse tensions and agitations in the zone.
I commend the Executive Secretary of Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Mrs Sharon Ikeazor and her team for this landmark achievement and urge them to continue with their good work of putting smiles on the faces of retirees who served our fatherland meritoriously at their prime.
GOD BLESS THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA!
