ON THE RESIGNATION OF ROBERT MUGABE AS PRESIDENT OF ZIMBABWE

  • By Monday Ameh

The resignation of 93 years old Robert Mugabe as the president of Zimbabwe after an incredible 37 years in power no doubt signals the end of Mugabization of Zimbabwe.

His resignation is a welcome development and a warning to African leaders in particular and the world in general that the era of dictatorship and holding on to power tenaciously is over.

All Mugabe’s contemporaries in Africa should do the needful and quit honourably in their own interest else the fate of their friend Mugabe will befall them soon, need I remind them of Arab Spring?

I urge the ZANU-PF to put machinery in motion to navigate through this interregnum seamlessly, while also calling for constitutional amendment that will lead to a very credible, free and fair elections without delay.

With the resignation of Robert Mugabe, the Military should now go back to the Barack and allow Civil rule to flourish.

Finally, the successor of Mugabe must act fast by uniting Zimbabweans irrespective of party or tribal differences.

Congratulations to Zimbabweans on their unprecedented emancipation.

Never Again!
