I wish to commend President Muhammadu Buhari for the early presentation of a very promising, ambitious and optimistic 2018 appropriation bill tagged “Budget of Consolidation” to the joint session of National Assembly yesterday.

The allocation of a whopping sum of N2.428 trillion (inclusive of capital in Statutory Transfers) representing about 30.8% of the total budget for capital budget if diligently implemented will result to massive completion of ongoing capital projects in the nooks and crannies of the country and will rejig our economic growth

Kudos to the President for allocating the sum of N118.98 billion to agriculture from N92 billion in this year budget this is historic and unprecedented and it is a pointer to the fact that the economy diversification efforts of the administration is no fluke

The proposed N8.612 trillion Aggregate Expenditure which comprises: a.    Recurrent Costs of N3.494 trillion;
b.    Debt Service of N2.014 trillion;
c.    Statutory Transfers of about N456 billion;
d.    Sinking Fund of N220 billion (to retire maturing bond to Local Contractors) estimate look promising as it is welfarist inclined, worthy of note is the ambience, comradeship and razzmatazz that characterized the budget presentation is quite commendable.

I urge the lawmakers to cooperate with the executive irrespective of party affiliation to ensure they properly scrutinize the budget devoid of sentiment, partisan approach and padding in order to past it before the end of the the year so that implementation can commence from 1st January, 2018 to ensure the change the APC led government promised Nigerians can be delivered to the people.

I call on the President to ensure that when the budget is finally passed there should be a paradigm shift to ensure its full implementation.
